Red Velvet

Red Velvet

Red velvet cake is a cake with either a dark red, bright red or red-brown color. It's traditionally prepared as a layer cake topped with cream cheese or cooked roux icing. The reddish color is achieved by adding red food coloring or beetroot. Originally red velvet cake is from United States. Common ingredients include buttermilk, butter, flour, sugar, vanilla, eggs and cocoa for the cake. The amount of cocoa used varies in different recipes. For frosting, cream cheese and buttercream are most commonly used.

Yesterday, I made red velvet cup cake as a sample to a potential customer who plan to open her own café soon….wish me luck!

Pancake

A pancake is a thin, flat, round cake prepared from a batter and cooked on a hot griddle or frying pan. Also known as a hotcake or flapjack. In Britain it is made without a raising agent, and is similar to a crêpe. In America, a raising agent is used typically baking powder. The American pancake is similar to a Scotch pancake or drop scone. Here, in Malaysia there is also another version eaten by Malays called apam balik which replaces the filling with sweet corn and condensed milk.

They may be served at any time with a variety of toppings or fillings including jam, fruit, syrup, chocolate chips, or meat. Now, instant pancake mix can be found in any supermarket nearby. However, some people think it tastes not so great.

Rainbow Cake

Rainbow Cake is a colorful layer cake with 6 different colors which are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple using gel food coloring. This cake ideally for a child's birthday party or any time you want to make a big impression. Butter cream or fluffy meringue is normally used for the frosting but I think cheese butter cream tasted even better.

On Sunday, I made this rainbow cake for my nephew birthday party. Hope he like it and enjoyed his birthday bash....Happy Birthday Raqip!!

Walnut Chocolate Brownies with Choc Sauce
Myths about this creation ~ There are three main myths about the creation of the brownie. The first, that a chef accidentally added melted chocolate to biscuit dough. The second, a cook forgot to add flour to the batter. And thirdly, the most popular belief, that a housewife did not have baking powder and improvised with this new treats. It was said that she was baking for guests and decided to serve these flattened cakes to them. This became our beloved treat of today. Whatever may be the case all three myths have gained popularity throughout the years due to its mysterious beginnings.

Chocolate brownie is one of my specialty, either plain or with walnut and spread with chocolate sauce with sprinkle of walnut nip.
